About the SEMINAR

Education and development have been the motto of global society. Education is valued when it is geared towards development of the individual and the society in the context of humanitarian values like – truth, righteousness, love for mankind, non violence and duties as a national obligation. Education system in particular and society in general promote the base for value development. Different parameters of quality need to be examined in such context. The school curriculum particularly the teachers play a major role in quality improvement of education system. Developments taking place in the field of trade and commerce, human capital formation and networking have expanded the canvas of thinking towards quality improvement in school education in the developing countries. It is more significant to ponder on the role of research by integrating thoughts and practices in school system as well as in teacher education system in strengthening the base for quality improvement in a wider network with specific reference to the provisions of Right to Education Act, 2009. The department of education of University of Allahabad, which promotes discipline based focus on education, intends to provide a forum for deliberation of scholars on issues and priorities concerning Quality Concerns in Education and Professional Ethics of Teachers in developing countries. The Indian Association of Teacher Educators which has played a major role in strengthening interactions among teachers and teacher educators on professional development of teachers and human values is collaborating in this venture.  Around two hundred delegates from different parts of the country as well as neighboring countries shall present their papers on different sub themes in the seminar.

Objectives:

The objectives of the seminar are –

bulletTo ponder on the issues concerning quality improvement in education system and professionalism among teachers of developing countries.
bulletTo prioritize ethical components in teacher preparation on the basis of research evidences and reflective thinking.
bullet To deliberate on quality issues in alternative modes of education in developing countries with specific reference to Indian subcontinent.

Themes of the Seminar:

·        Quality parameters of school education and higher education.

·        Role of teachers vis- a- vis teacher empowerment provisions in the context of quality in education.

·        Strategies for inculcation of professional ethics among teachers.

·        Efficacy of ICT in Research, Development and sustaining quality in Education with a focus on teacher empowerment.

·        Quality Issues in Open and Distance learning based teacher education.

·        Priorities of research in Quality Assurance and professional development of teachers.

Call for papers:

Research papers on the above mentioned themes or sub-themes can be written in English. It should be typed using MS Word-XP, Times New Roman Font of 12 pt.  Size. The abstract of the paper should be written in about 300 words The abstract and the registration form along with registration fee of Rs. 600/- should be sent latest by 02.01.2010. On the basis of preliminary screening of abstracts invitations for full length papers shall be given to the paper presenters. The full paper should reach us by 20.01.2010. Registration fee is as follows:

Rs. 600/- per participant from India

US Dollars $150/- per foreign participant.

Registration fee includes modest accommodation, hospitality and conference material for the delegates. No TA/DA will be provided. However, limited travel subsidy could be considered for TA of resource persons. Limited accommodation is available in university Guest house and Hostels in single beds. Accommodation in Guest House / Hostel shall be provided on demand according to availability. The delegates demanding Hotel accommodation will have to pay extra charges as per Tariff. Pre intimation for accommodation is essential. Registration fees to be paid through Demand Draft in favor of “The convener International seminar in Education, A. U. Allahabad drawn from any nationalized bank of India payable at Allahabad, U.P. India. Only those contributors whose papers have been accepted for the seminar in advance shall be eligible for getting registered.

The University of Allahabad

The University of Allahabad is the fourth oldest University in India. Founded in 1887, it has been a premier center for higher learning. The University was restored its original Central status in 2005 by the act of Union Parliament. Many of its alumni have held high national offices of the country, such as the President, Prime minister, Union Minister, Chief Justice, Judge of the Supreme Court and State Governor. It has produced numerous eminent scholars, scientists, men of letters, civil servants and business leaders. Popularly known as the Oxford of the East, it is recognized the world over for its quality of education and faculty and the attainments of its students. It has four faculties, 33 departments, a number of institutes and specialized centers, enrolls over 25 thousand students and has around 550 full time faculty positions. It offers undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral level programmes, apart from diploma and certificate courses.

Department of Education:

The Department of Education estd. 1944 is one of the pioneering institutions of educational studies in the country. The stalwarts like Late Prof. P. S. Naidu and Prof. S. B. Adawal laid the foundation of discipline based studies in education. Many of its alumni have held faculty positions in leading Universities and Institutions of the country. The department has areas of specialization in Educational Foundations, Educational Management and Educational Technology, Open and Distance Learning. The Department has been working in collaboration with a number of national and regional level institutions. It offers various programmes in education at B. A., M. A., M. Ed, Pre. Doctoral and Doctoral levels. It has held a number of national level conferences and Seminars.
